Living in Los Angeles has it perks! Being the film capital of the world, it is easy to find old memorabilia or old film sets throughout the Los Angeles county area. Tucked away in Malibu Creek State Park is the iconic 70’s TV sitcom, M*A*S*H set. While the HikeSnobs might me a generation or two behind, we were definitely curious to check this place out.

Normally you can park at the lot for $12 dollar all day, but we opted to park for free on the side of the road along Mulholland Highway (34.105208, -118.731764). We got there relatively early, so there were plenty of parking spots. The trail began a few feet away.

The well-maintained dirt trail sloped downward for well over a mile until we reached a T-intersection. We were able to spot Century Lake directly ahead.

If you make a left, you’ll end up towards Malibu Creek Pools and if you go right you’ll head towards the M*A*S*H site. We wanted to end our day at the pools so we decided to head towards the M*A*S*H site first.

From Century Lake, we headed down Craggs road towards the site. The trail opens and is uncovered for this portion of the hike, so make sure you wear sunscreen because there is hardly any shade. When you reach the bridge, you are getting close.

After this point, some parts of the trail become a bit a narrow and rocky but there is more shade coverage in this area.

0.8 miles later we reached our first destination of the day!

Things to check out:

  • Military ambulance vehicle

  • M*A*S*H information/photos of the show

  • Picnic table area underneath camouflage nets (A great place to eat lunch or to take a break)

  • Another abandoned vehicle

  • And our favorite! The mileage city sign from the show.

Since we are not really fans of the show, we didn’t spend too much time here. We decided to continue down the trail. It eventually leads you to a dam that has been fenced off with a no trespassing sign. Trespassing… Linda’s favorite word.

She eventually convinced both Alice and our friend Victor to check it out. With a little bit of rock climbing, we made our way to the end.

With not much to see, we quickly decided to leave before we got into any trouble. We headed back towards the M*A*S*H site on Crags road. Next stop: Malibu Creek Pools.

@HikeSnobs Tips:

  • Free parking on the main road
