Bright and early as always, these HikeSnobs set out for another adventure. Just an hour northwest of Los Angeles, you’ll find Topanga Canyon Lookout. A short but scenic hike is what we call a perfect Sunday morning.
We were surprised to see only 3 spots at the trailhead when we arrived. Maybe not that many people come here or there may be more parking elsewhere. The small lot is also a viewpoint. On a clear day, you’d be able to spot surrounding aerial views of neighboring cities, the ocean and even Catalina Island.
Just behind the parking lot, you can easily find the trail that will lead you to the lookout.
Walking along the paved fire road, you’ll eventually hit a fork. If you continue up the paved road, you will reach the watch tower. Taking the dirt trail on the left will lead you to the lookout.
Being a HikeSnob, “No Trespassing” signs mean “Come on in!” so we went right 😈
We were rewarded with a great view of the watch tower but we didn’t get too far because it was fenced off. Did we try to get past this fence? No… because someone was definitely behind the fence making noises to scare us away.
Heading back to the fork, we took the dirt trail to find our original destination.
About half a mile, you’ll see the top of the lookout. Just a short climb uphill and we reached the top.
Submerged in a sea of fluffy fog, the view of the Santa Monica Mountains was amazing… breath-taking… mesmerizing… all of the above! 😍😍 We’re not sure how the view will be on a clear day but it should be just as beautiful.
The graffiti covered concrete makes this a unique destination. The “art” is constantly changing so don’t expect to see the same thing twice.
Topanga Lookout is an easy hike that offers stunning views. It is the perfect spot to hang out and take in your surroundings. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth checking out.
Until next time, Malibu. ✌️️✌️️
